Adult Education
Recognizing that Jewish learning is a lifelong experience, education is the cornerstone to MCJC. In addition to the religious school program for children, MCJC offers a dynamic array of learning opportunities for adults. Many programs are developed and taught by Rabbi Gordon, but the synagogue also brings in guest lecturers to speak on a wide variety of topics including current events, Jewish history, life in Israel and Jewish life cycles. All are offered free of charge.
Programming recently or currently offered to MCJC members and other Jews in the area include:
Lunch & Learn
A weekly Torah/Talmud study and discussion group meets each Wednesday at noon. Participants take turns bringing lunch for the group.
Introduction to Judaism
A six-week class covering the history, principles and rituals of the Jewish people.
One Book/One Congregation
This is more than just another book club. Each session, members select a book relating to Judaism or about Jews throughout history that have made significant contributions to society. Participants then meet and discuss the books approximately every 6-8 weeks
Jewish Life Cycle Events
A three-part series offered cooperatively with Congregation Tikkun Olam and the Shalom Group of Sun City, with sessions on rituals associated with Birth, Marriage, and Death and Dying.
Synagogue Skills
Each Sunday morning during the school year, Rabi Gordon leads a class which includes reading Hebrew, understanding the siddur, reading Torah and more.
Adult Bar & Bat Mitzvah
A two-year class is open to all men and women who want to learn more about the Jewish Heritage and Hebrew language. The course culminates in an Adult Bnai Mitzvah ceremony.
