Little Shul on
The Prairie
You might not expect to find a full-service synagogue housed
in a 100-year-old former school house surrounded by corn fields,
but here at MCJC we're full of pleasant surprises.

Since 1979, family and friends have gathered at MCJC to worship,

handed down for centuries. Through regular worship services and an
assortment of community events, MCJC strives to meet the spiritual
and social needs of Jews in the McHenry county area. As the heart
of Jewish life and learning for hundreds of Jews and interfaith families
in the greater McHenry County area, MCJC is the place to come to make

Service Times
Friday evening 6:30 p.m.
Saturday morning 9:30-11:15 a.m.
All are welcome.
Friday Night Shabbat Services Offer New Perspectives on Worship
Twice a month at MCJC we have traditional Kabbalat Shabbat (Welcoming the Sabbath) services. Then, twice a month we offer:
Storytelling Shabbat: A service for all ages, particularly Religious School families. There is more English in the service, some sections are condensed, and Rabbi Gordon shares a story with a message for us all.
Meditation Shabbat Service: At this once-a-month service we focus on core issues in our lives through chant, guided meditations and kavanot, passages that help us zero in on the intention of the prayer we are about to offer. A slower pace and less words add up to a deeper experience for participants.
Lunch & Learn
Lunch and Learn now meets at 1:00 p.m.. In February it will meet on the 1st, the 8th and the 22nd. Each week we explore a Chasidic teaching on the weekly Torah reading, applying it our own lives. Sessions are not cumulative; newcomers are always welcome.
